Daikin employees joined Decatur Fire & Rescue personnel for the check presentation.
Soon you will see Decatur Fire and Rescue’s new Firefighting Boat on the Tennessee River. The boat will be the only one of its kind on the river and Daikin America played a critical role in bringing it to Decatur.
Daikin donated $20,000 to DFR, which allowed the department to secure a government grant for 75% of the boat’s cost. The vessel will be equipped to defend against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards.
Chief Tracy D. Thornton said his department is extremely grateful to Daikin for the commitment.
“On behalf of Decatur Fire/Rescue, we extend our deepest appreciation to Daikin America for their generous $20,000 donation, which played a pivotal role in securing a Port Security Grant. This donation served as part of the critical 25% match required for the federal grant, enabling the acquisition of a multi-hazard vessel designed to enhance emergency response capabilities.
“The vessel’s capability to pump 3,000 gallons of water per minute will significantly bolster our ability to conduct fire operations from the water, develop and execute safer water rescues, and deploy chemical agent booms during potential spills on the Tennessee River,” Chief Thornton said.
