DAIFREE mold release agents

DAIFREE is based on the fluoro technology offering efficient demolding performances for elastomers and plastics. Besides high precision release, they contribute to solving molders productivity and consistency as they limit residue on parts, are applicable rapidly at a thin thickness and reduce mold cleaning cycles.

DESCRIPTION

Benefits of DAIFREE

When processing rubbers and plastic materials, converters are seeking for mold release agents that not only protect the parts but also improve productivity, as well as preserve the mold. It is mainly the case when processing elastomer compounds likely to present amongst the highest level of chemical aggressiveness. For molders, the aim is to find the right balanced solution to:

  • Minimize defects, inconsistencies, and build-ups especially for complex parts
  • Extend service and availability of the molds
  • Reduce the number of mold cleaning cycles
  • Provide production schedule flexibility (delay molding or quick dry process)
  • Ease secondary operation such as printing and painting
  • Comply with regulations related to the environment

The DAIFREE range of molding agents was developed to offer plastic and elastomer molders the demolding precision expected while enabling parts producers a significant productivity improvement and flexibility.

Available in water or solvent based formulation, the DAIFREE range is a fluorocarbon-based solution suitable for fluoroelastomers (FKM, NBR, etc.) thermosets ( epoxies, etc.) or thermoplastics (PVC, PP PE, etc.) Whereas wax or silicons release agents, the DAIFREE mechanism relies on interface and layer separation when demolding. This technology offers to molders an overall process efficiency:

  • High precision release leading to lower defects and damages
  • Thin thickness film from 0-0.1µ enabling raw material optimization and rapid application
  • No mold contamination inducing less cleaning cycles and an extended life service
  • No penetration of the product in, or onto the part. Daifree forms a dry coating preventing the part from becoming sticky for secondary operation
  • One application can serve several molding cycles
  • A non-hazardous material, safe to use by operator’s

The various options of the DAIFREE range makes it a suitable solution for most materials such as general rubber, silicones and synthetic rubber (FKM/FPM, EPDM, HNBR, NBR, SBR, CR, FRP, etc. thermosetting resins (Urethane rubber, Epoxy resin, Phenol resin, etc.) as well as thermoplastics and unsaturated polyester (PVC, PP, PE, PA, POM, PC, etc.)

The use of Daifree is adapted to most processes as it is applicable by spray, brush or aerosol and it is dilutable in water. Besides, the composition complies with the regulation of substances such as PFOA and ozone-depleting substances.
Daikin Chemicals teams of experts can support molders to specify the most suitable solutions, taking into account each process specificities.

Features of DAIFREE

  • Excellent mold releasing capability
  • Very thin, dry film of 0,1 – 1,0 μm thickness
  • Oil repellency
  • Stain-proofing properties
  • Improves molding efficiency
  • Lowers defect ratio
  • Improves molding precision
  • Continued releasing capability

Comparison to other mold release materials

Wax based: Thick (30 – 50 μm), solid film layer. Mold surface easily becomes contaminated
Silicone based: Thin (1 – 20 μm), oily film layer. Often penetrates into molded articles, making secondary processing difficult
DAIFREE: Very thin (0,1 – 1,0 μm), dry film layer with oil repellent and stain-proofing properties

ZEFFLE

ZEFFLE: Next generation fluorourethanes and additives

ZEFFLE is a fluoropolymer resin used to formulate coatings with exceptional weatherability, resistance to corrosion and dirt pick-up, self cleaning properties and high adhesion to a wide range of substrates. ZEFFLE next generation fluorourethane is made with tetrafluoroethylene monomer, giving the polymer outstanding chemical, thermal, and weathering resistance. Utilization of ZEFFLE leads to the formulation of coatings with exceptional properties, making ZEFFLE one of the best polymer selections for service life and best weathering coatings available today.

ZEFFLE solventborne and waterborne fluorourethanes are used in a wide range of architectural and industrial paint and coating applications including coil coatings, anti-corrosion coatings, buildings, bridges, storage tanks, and virtually any structure or surface. ZEFFLE is also widely used in the production of photovoltaic (PV) panels, where coatings formulated with ZEFFLE are used to protect polyester backsheets. ZEFFLE can be formulated to achieve the severe weathering and damp heat test requirements necessary to meet IEC standards for PV panels. ZEFFLE coatings are formulated for OEM (coil coating, spray booth) or for field applied coatings. ZEFFLE coatings can be applied as a clear coat or they can be formulated in bright, vibrant colors.

ZEFFLE GH-701 is an additive to solvent-based coatings including our ZEFFLE GK product line. ZEFFLE GH-701 creates a hydrophilic surface on coatings which allows dirt and stains to be easily washed off by rainwater. It is suitable for sites where the aesthetics is important and/or repainting is difficult.

Daikin America: Aerospace

Daikin fluoropolymers have been used in the aerospace industry for many years. Applications in this market frequently require very demanding performance requirements such as high temperature, low dielectric, chemical resistance, low coefficient of friction and barrier properties. Engineering developers often utilize these properties either by themselves or in combinations.

When aerospace designers need materials that push the limits of traditional engineering, Daikin fluoropolymers provide the solution with products that enable them to go beyond the boundaries of their concepts.

Product Uses

Daikin offers a variety of grades of materials that are well suited to meet the demanding needs of the aerospace wire and cable market segment: high temperature abilities along with low dielectric and ease of processing.

High Temperature Release Film for Composite Manufacture

To meet the need for greater productivity and ease-of- part release from the tooling after autoclave and out-of-autoclave-curing, Daikin offers both FEP (200°C, 390°F) and ETFE (150°C, 300°F) materials to meet high temperature vacuum-bagging needs.

Surface Coatings

Daikin’s wide variety of surface coating treatments meets diverse demands in the aerospace market, whether for an anti-smudging coating on avionic displays/windows or a fluoropolymer base for the exterior painted coating of an aircraft.

Unidyne Fabric Coatings

Daikin’s Unidyne product line provides a wide variety of surface treatments for fabrics including cabin dividers, cabin carpeting, and seat cover fabrics. Our products increase stain prevention of coated fabrics and provide for easier clean-up.

Fuel Systems (-60°F and above)

FKM and FFKM fluoroelastomer sealing materials are often the material of choice for the most demanding performances requiring high temperature capabilities along with excellent chemical resistance for extended periods of time.
