Daikin - ShadoThe Japanese word “shodo” is a very short word used to describe something very beautiful: flowing kanji characters raised to a high art form. Shodo is usually translated as “the way of artistic handwriting or beautiful writing” and you’ll have the chance to learn it at Daikin Festival 2024, May 3 from 6:30 pm until 9 pm at Point Mallard.

An art form 2000 years old, Shodo calligraphy is created with handmade brushes and traditional ink on mulberry paper. Traditionally practiced by scholars and aristocrats, today Shodo is accessible to everyone. It’s a popular pastime at schools where children learn the characters at the same time they learn to sit quietly and work patiently.

With all the excitement happening at Daikin Festival, we think you’ll really enjoy taking a few quiet minutes to learn this traditional way of beautiful writing.
