A pioneer in cooling efficiency, Daikin is the world’s leading producer of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. In the United States, Daikin America is one of the largest producers of fluoropolymers. The combination of this expertise with renewable energy generation is part of Daikin’s strategy to achieve near Zero-Energy Buildings (nZEB) in the foreseeable future and create a more sustainable way of living.
Daikin high performance fluoropolymers, fluorocoatings and fluoroelastomers provide critical properties to enhance and protect the key components of energy producing devices. Whether the need is transparency, UV resistance, moisture barrier, increased process ability, infrared reflection, storage stability, high temperature resistance or other properties, Daikin works with you to solve your technical challenges.
Product Uses
Daikin’s ZEFFLE fluorocoatings and ETFE films are used in a variety of crystalline silicon and thin-film PV modules in both rigid and flexible configurations. Topsheets and backsheets made with these high performance fluoropolymers are used by PV module manufacturers in the United States, China, Europe, Japan and India. These photovoltaic topsheets and backsheets play a critical role in the performance of solar panels over their lifetime.
Daikin ZEFFLE is a family of high performance varnishes based on Tetrafluoroethylene (TFE).
- Formulated in paints, they have been used over 25 years to protect outdoor equipment against harsh environments.
- Formulated in coatings for PET films, they deliver the top performance of a fluoropolymer with the flexibility and easy processing of a coating.
Daikin ETFE is a high performance fluoropolymer that provides transparency, UV resistance, and lightweight flexibility, yet possesses the mechanical strength required for topsheet application. It is used in flexible PV modules as well as in rigid configurations.
Lightweight, transparent ETFE films used on top of flexible or rigid solar modules have higher light transmittance than glass while providing long-term weather protection. Daikin’s ZEFFLE fluorocoatings excel at providing similar protection for the backs of rigid solar modules.
ZEFFLE Infrared Reflective Coating (ZIRC) is a specially formulated coating for surfaces requiring both long term weatherability resistance and reflection of infrared radiation. Originally a target for “cool roof” applications, these coatings can lower the envelope and inside temperature of a building, and thus decrease the energy required to cool buildings in warmer climates.
