Benefits of Polymer Additives
The inherent properties of a material are sometimes not enough to meet expected performance specifications, or to fit within specific production constraints. Modifying surface properties of a given plastic, elastomer, or grease is among the most difficult features to achieve.
Complex designed parts may demand an increased mold releasability to limit defaults or speed the production process. Processors and compounders may also look to better balance a formulation to optimize the overall system cost. Industrial components such as gears may require higher lubricity for operating use which can only be obtained through high-performance lubricants or greases that last much longer than standard lubricants.
Daikin Micropowders
Daikin has developed Micropowders based on Fluorine technology. Fluorine technology imparts positive attributes including water repellency, scratch resistance, mar resistance, and more. With solutions, available for greases and conventional plastics such as polyamide, polyacetal, polyester, polycarbonate and TPE, they impart intrinsic properties of fluoropolymers.
Polyflon Micropowders improve the wear resistance of PC, PA and other plastics. They also decrease the Coefficient of Friction (COF) of polymers.
Polyflon Micropowders are based on PTFE technology.
Features and Benefits
- For plastics: to improve processing, wear, and to reduce the COF
- For elastomer: improve wear and to reduce the COF
- For grease: increased operating temperature range and longer usage time than standard lubricants
- For wax: improve water repellency
- For paint: improve scratch resistance and mar resistance
Friction Coefficient of Polyflon
5-20 wt% of Polyflon and other solid lubricants are added into POM to evaluate the friction properties.
L-5 shows much lower friction properties.
